The city of Napa is the largest community within the greater Napa Valley with over 80,000 residents. It offers a balance of culture, entertainment, and relaxed country feel that embodies the Napa Valley. Over the past decade, the city has transitioned into a modern, vibrant community that is reflected in its new architecture and Main Street’s revitalization. Residents have infused new life and energy while respecting and preserving the history manifested in charming historic districts and beautiful Victorian-era homes. A low crime rate, clean air and great weather make Napa a desirable place to live.
Founded in 1847, Napa was an important way-station for California’s Gold Rush “49ers”. A true blue-collar community, the city was home to tanneries, prune processing and other commercial endeavors. Situated on a prime location with the Napa River, the city became a center for both travelers and shipping of commercial and industrial goods. The first official Napa Valley winery was founded in 1859 within city limits of Napa.
