Centrally located in the Napa Valley, the town of Yountville is home to approximately 3,000 residents. Yountville is considered by many to be the culinary center of the Napa Valley. Although fine dining there can be traced back to 1977, it was Thomas Keller’s legendary French Laundry that put Yountville on the map. It has consistently been rated as one of the best restaurants in the world for both its cuisine and ambiance. The town has since grown into culinary mecca, surrounded by luxurious wine country estates and many of the most prestigious vineyards in the Napa Valley.
Named after George Yount, who is considered responsible for establishing the first vineyard in the Napa Valley, the town itself is 1.5 square miles in size. In 1999, the Yountville area was approved as an American Viticultural Area (AVA), recognizing it as a unique region for growing premium wine grapes. It is warmer than the Carneros AVA to its south, yet cooler than the AVAs to its north and west. The Yountville AVA, which centers around the town of Yountville, includes more than 4,000 acres of planted vineyards today.
Yountville’s intimate layout makes it convenient to navigate by foot or bicycle and explore its boutiques, galleries, tasting rooms and amazing restaurants that line Washington Street. Luxurious spas, hotels and inns provide accommodations that attract travelers from all over the world. For residents that call Yountville home, the town strives to provide exception parks and public open space to embrace the weather and scenery that makes the Napa Valley uniue.
Yountville is also home to some of Napa Valley’s main cultural and athletic amenities as well. This includes the Napa Valley Performing Arts Center at Lincoln theatre and Vintner’s 9-hole golf course. Not to be outshined by the local restaurants, the Yountville area includes a number of wineries and tasting rooms of acclaim. They include producers such as Domaine Chandon and unique tasting rooms such as Ma(i)sonry, Hestan and JCB Lounge. One can explore the unique shops and galleries throughout V Marketplace, which also offers dining and wine tasting.
